Ouija Board : Warning

by SloshedAndVexed @ 2008-07-22 - 23:53:02

I  noticed here last night , on a 12 y.o's first 'blog entry a reference to ouija boards .
Whether she's  tried that or if she was joking I can't say .

Ouija boards :  boards  with letters of the alphabet , numbers , and 'yes' , 'no' and 'goodbye'  on them , and a pointing device , or inverted light wineglass in the center , first appeared in around 1890 , and until at least the 1930's were marketed as a family-friendly board game .

It's unlikely to work with one person : With at least two , preferably about three to six people , concentrating and taking it seriously , and each with one finger lightly resting on - or even just above the  glass it will start to move : Ask questions and answers will be spelled out .

Cynics say that is due to the players unconsciously gently pushing the glass to spell out words .

Believers say it's a way of communicating with spirits of people who've died : But most warn against it , saying it's like leaving your front door open to anyone who feels like coming in .

I recall , some years ago hearing some of a night-time radio phone-in presented by the late Mike Dickin , in which he introduced the subject of ouija board experimentation and many callers related very plausible and disturbing accounts of seriously sinister and scary results of ouija board usage . Though Mike Dickin had no  religious or spiritual beliefs he stated that he would never  use one , or allow anyone to in his house .

I've heard of mental illness , suicide , death  and  alarming paranormal phenomena resulting from ouija board usage .

I do'nt know about 'demons' , I mean , if ghosts are of previously alive humans , then where did 'angels' or 'demons' originate from  ?

But there's so much that we do'nt know .
From what little I know I'd say that : Yes : three to six people using an OB , taking it seriously and being quietly relaxed it DOES work : It is a fascinating paranormal phenomenom that's quite easy to reproduce : BUT : You may 'get away with' it , But , whatever the explanation for why it works , It's Seriously EXTREMELY  Dangerous : PLEASE , please  Do'nt  EVER  try  it .

There are various paths to Spiritual Enlightenment : OB's are an easy short-cut to likely terrifying  consequences .

Having said that if you Have ever meddled with one I'd be most interested to know what did or did'nt happen .

With a Ouija board it really depends a lot what you're expecting. I've never found them particularly good if everyone is just messing around... and if all you want to do is contact the dead there are better ways to do it.

My own two experiences with a Ouija board were:
1. Someone was cheating (me. I was about ten years old at the time.)
2. It lead to a rather unpleasant practical joke on one of the members of the group (not me. I had nothing to do with it and heard about it afterwards).

But at no time did I feel anything was at work here other than human agency. Others may well have had other experiences, in some cases because the ouija board has acquired this 'evil mystique' (sorry, I know that's not the right term but I can't think of a better one at the moment).

I have to say to TOm that I believe there is plenty of evidence to the contrary that something survives after death, but again, it depends what you're expecting. When something is dead of course the physical part decays, just like a dead tree or a pile of leaves. But something seems to persist, and there's still an awful lot we don't know because we don't expect to find it.

Once you start looking, it's surprising what you find.

Thanks again , I sometimes wonder if part of us survives for a little while after death before fading away into nothingness , though I generally belive in some lasting continuance of the soul , and the book 'heaven and earth' by the U.S 'medium' James van Praagh seems to speak to me .
Are you familiar with the writings and lectures of Rudolf Steiner at all ( he died in 1925 I think ) ?
The translations are very difficult to grasp , though my mother is very into that ,

I've heard of Steiner, although I'm not sure I've read any of his stuff - at least, not in the last thirty years!

Mr Penry is a very good (although often reluctant) medium and when he gives people specific messages from their friends/loved ones who are long dead, things that were unknown to the person concerned and therefore could not have been 'sent' to Mr Penry via telepathy or even 'fishing', then it's difficult not to come to the conclusion that something of us survives.

But obviously I'm speaking from my own experience, and I appreciate my views are highly subjective.

"I believe there is plenty of evidence to the contrary that something survives after death"

Would you care to show me some of it?

Tom.

Hi TOm... I can tell you some of the things I've experienced, but what you make of them is up to you.

As I've mentioned before, Mr Penry is a very good (although often reluctant) medium. This isn't something he's been trained in, it just seems to happen. And it can be quite awkward when he gets a message come through for someone he doesn't know and usually asks me to go over and try and tell them.

Now if these messages were merely telling the subjects something they already knew about the deceased, for example 'Your Granny's name was Gladys and she liked to bet on the horses' I would think that even if it were true, it's not proof of post-death existence. This is because the informaton could have been gathered telepathically. I don't know whether you believe in telepathy, but I do, and for me that would be a logical explanation. It would be an interesting exercise in telepathy but wouldn't prove anything one way or the other.

However, what I've seen happen is that he gets a message about something that is quite unknown to the subject. So it could be something like 'Your Granny's name was Gladys Smith and she wants you to go and look for the family bible which is hidden in a suitcase in the wardrobe in your uncle's house.'
Now, if (and obviously it's a big if) this turns out to be true, it's rather different, because it's difficult to see where else this info came from, other than the deceased Granny.

And this sort of thing does happen. You may not have had experience of it, but I have. And I don't expect you to believe me, but I do hope you feel you can trust my sincerity in what I'm saying, even if you feel that I may be misinterpreting.

A more specific example was the 7th July Tube Bombings. Mr Penry went through absolute hell for about three or four days, with people on the other side trying to give him messages. He didn't read newspapers or listen to the news at the time and yet he had a message through (forename and surname) plus the area of london where the victim lived... something we could only check days later and at the time when the message came through the victim's only family didn't even know the truth.

An interesting aspect of this latter example was that the victim was distressed because he didn't realise he was dead.

Mediumship can be a very distressing gift.

hey guys just wanna say ouija boards work IF you have someone who is experienced and trained..I have a friend who has been trained, and I trusted her to come into my home, as i was seeing things and having things happen around my home. She told us the basic rules, but told us to ask her to ask the spirit(s) the questions, otherwise they get confused. We got through, and we asked the spirit to move towards the light, and since, nothing dangerous or abnormal has happened..it seemed to free the spirit from my home.

Most spirits arent eveil, they are trapped in limbo, but you DO get eveil spirits, so please, dont try this at home.

Peace,

Emmaleigh
