stop and stare . . .

by SloshedAndVexed @ 2008-07-18 - 22:27:52

The BBC proms are here again .
Now , after every piece , it's back to the presenters in a seperate studio , so you get less of a feeling of 'being there' .
Curiously , female presenters/guests on the televised proms do not wear bra's .
I'm thinking of one woman who I've seen on several prom broadcasts in recent years , and the two females in the bbc prom studio tonight .
Which does'nt bother me , but  does puzzle me somewhat .
What matters is that they know what they're talking about . The young woman on tonights broadcast does , but is never invited by Charles Hazelwood to say anything .
As for the old matron who he keeps grovelling round , just because she's been on a tv programme called 'dragons den' , and he and his bbc producers are desperately trying to make their televised classical music concerts seem relevant to the majority of viewers who do'nt like classical music , none of her comments demonstrate anything more than a vague , shallow knowledge of the music she's meant to be trying to popularise .
She stated that it's not possible to remain sitting down whilst listening to Mozart.
Oh Really ? Well the seated audience in the albert hall manage to .
Not even his requiem then ? -  Oh , I see . . .
I think she must have ants in her pants . If she wears them .
Richard Strauss's profound and moving 'Four Last Songs' were followed by clips from 'Dragons Den' .
Which may be a superbly ingenious game-show , I do'nt know , I've never seen it or wanted to , but talk about spoiling the mood  .  .

Elsewhere , on bbc radio's home of live news and sport Radio5live , all that matters , from dawn til dusk , from yesterday until god knows when is a minority-interest sport called golf , which is slow , boring , and is about as suited to radio as Wayne and Collen Rooney would be suited to presenting the proms - now there's an idea !

I often wonder what 5live would do if a massive news-story broke during an important Manchester United match . . .
********************
I do'nt begrudge Robert Murat any of his compensation for the contemptible lies about him published in several newspapers .
And all because a silly red-top-tabloid sunday newspaper reporter thought him  suspicious , on account of his trying to help in any way he could after Madeleine McCann disappeared .
I hope the reports that he and Kate and Gerry McCann may very soon be relieved of their 'arguido' status are correct .
But , do'nt hold your breath . . .
The portugese authorities will , so far as they can get away with it , continue to seek to give the impression that they know that the McCann's and/or Murat are responsible , but that they just can't prove it .

I don't watch telly any more, but I must remember to tune into Radio 3 for some of the Proms. I'm not even remotely interested in the presenters though...

I'm sure it's far less irritating to listen to then on R3 than to watch them on tv !
