So what would be your manifesto for effectively tackling the stabbings that we hear of nearly every day now ?
Because one  tragic victim was the brother of a former Eastenders actress a lot of people are now saying that 'something must be done' .
Scrapping Eastenders ,  which depicts , not stabbings , but general unpleasentness as 'the norm' might be a good starting point .
And , more pertinently , enforcing deterrent sentences against anyone , of any age , caught carrying a knife for anything other than necessary practical / work purposes .
With much more 'stop and search' tactics , and airport-style scanners .

I do feel strongly that we are all human , and good , bad or more likely somewhere in between but hopefully trying our best , and that recognising and respecting differences is good ( so long as that does'nt entail accepting the unacceptable ) , and that tribalism is futile .

Last night I watched the dvd of 'disturbia' , which is a quite well-made hollywood teen-movie about a young man electronically tagged to stay at home for three months for punching his spanish teacher : He and friends begin to suspect a neighbour of being a murderer , and it seems that they're mistaken except that what would be the point of such a movie-plot if the suspicions were'nt proved to be correct so it's quite predictable .
