Jodie Foster Brave One , etc .

by SloshedAndVexed @ 2008-02-10 - 00:15:22

I've just watched the dvd of 'The Brave One' , out on monday , and I must admit that I was yawning all the way through : It's a vigilante movie , a sort of 'death wish' crossed with 'batman' except that the heroine is a strong but vulnerable , independent yet needy ,  compassionate though flawed bereaved woman portrayed by the admirable Jodie Foster .
After her boyfriend is beaten to death by scumbag hoodlums in Central Park she - Erica Bain , who has a weekly radio show in which she plays recordings of the sounds of , and narrates her own insightful commentaries  on New York City - acquires a gun then fortuitously  keeps encountering dangerous , amoral lowlife characters who need shooting .
She co-incidentally becomes a friend of apparently the only police-inspector investigating murders in the city , and you can guess the rest . .
It's not rubbish but it should have been so much better .
I like Jodie Foster though I think that the implausibly plotted 'Flightplan' works much better , as does 'Panic Room' and other movies she's starred in .

I read today that Gordon Brown is said to be obsessively tormented by thoughts of Tony Blair :
Oh dear - poor chap . . .  A 'fate worse than death' that must surely be . . .
