So said The Queen , looking down from a balcony just before the banquet for the State Visit of President Kufour of Ghana and his wife , when the lift had broken down (Solution :The staff lift .) I love the 'fly on the wall' documentaries about HM and her family : If I was a Socialist I'd decry the amount of money it all costs , but I'm not , and it just makes me laugh .
All the preparation and exactitude of fine detail , like the polishing of each item of fruit - not with furniture polish , we hope - and the regulatory geometrically square ice cubes .
As a boy in the 70's I moderately revered The Queen , and I recall buying a souvenir magazine about Prince Charles's investiture as Prince of Wales . (He loves Wales so much , that he hardly ever goes there.)
My Mum is of the same generation of The Queen and the late Princess Margaret . My Dad was never a Royalist , and , after Mrs . Thatcher's forced abdication he turned his venom on The Queen , even referring to her as a 'bitch' , and quoting an alleged incidence of HM having sneeringly put down a woman who'd had the temerity to speak before being spoken to .
Do I have respect for HM , and , in the unlikely event of my meeting her , would I be politely respectful , though not grovellingly supine ? - Of course .
I am certain that Princess Diana was murdered , or that , even if it was a 'lucky for some' accident , which I doubt , her assassination was imminent .
Mr. Fayed is convinced that Prince Philip was behind it all , not least due to the 'notorious' article in the early editions of the Sunday Mirror on the day of the alma tunnel crash .
I'm not at all so sure it's as simple as that , and , of course , the ongoing enquiry will almost , almost certainly concur that it was a tragic accident .

"What a life one leads"
Polygamy : Would you ?
Gentleman , would you like to have more than one wife ?
And ladies , how would you feel about sharing your husband with other wives of his - or even about having more than one husband ?
Not surprisingy polygamy is not something I've any experience of . I can imagine the allure of having a 'harem' of lovely ladies to choose from , though for a few men it's difficult enough to find 1 wife , or 'partner' , if one is a bit 'shy' socially , and without the redeeming attractions of being sensationally good looking or fantastically wealthy . (Or overconfidently brash and loud.)
It seems , unsurprisingly , to be prevalent in some very 'male-dominated' societies . (Just as some male 'cult leaders' like to use their power and influence to have their pick of their female followers .)
My 'friend' on this site advocates male polygamy , though she has no personal experience of it either . She thinks it's more honourable for a man to have more than one wife than to be married to one woman and enjoying 'a bit on ths side' with another .
Maybe so , but , not all married men 'cheat on' their wives , some women do that to their husbands , and , Not that I'm encouraging or excusing secretive adultery at all but is'nt the whole point that it's meant to be an exciting bit of illicit , non-committal fun ?
And who can say that anyone with more than one spouse would never succumb to temptation with anyone else ?
Not that I'm entirely condemning polygamy , or saying that it can never work out happily for all involved , though I thought that marriage vows were about being loyal and faithful to one person alone .
I certainly would'nt like it to become popular in this country , as , unless everybody was 'cheating on' everyone else all the time there would be far fewer women left for less socially confident men such as myself , and , though my friend pointed out that this planet is populated by more women than men , I think that's because women tend to live longer , which is not of much help to younger single men !
And how would I feel about sharing a wife with other husbands of hers ... ? : Well having never tried it I can only say that I very much doubt that I'd like it !
I can see why my friend thinks that sharing her husband with another lady might help to make her life more bearable , but ...
What are your feelings on the subject of polygamy - Please comment , anyone ?
